Stop
motion animation is a highly motivating cross-curricular activity that our class
has used to create several projects. First we write a storyboard using information
learned in our unit. Then we create characters out of clay. We design background
paintings and sets. We then move our clay characters centimeters at a time capturing
each shot using a digital video camera and iStopMotion. We do this over a thousand
times to create a two minute video.
Each movie is available in two formats and two different sizes
for QuickTime . If you have a PC you most likely have Windows Media Player
so click on the Windows Media files. If you have a Mac computer you most likely
have a QuickTime Player and you can use the QuickTime files. If you have a
Broadband Internet connection you may wish to tackle the large files. They
are about 4 MB. If you have a dial-up connection you should use the small
files. They are a little over 2 MB and still may take a while to load.
Our
first project is a movie created using stop motion animation called Penguins.
After
learning about sharks we made a movie which combined stop motion animation with
live "green screened" actors and a background video. This was all
composited using Final Cut HD and Motion.
After
studying insects in science we created a music video in which we sang about
some of the things that we learned about these creatures.
